Luong, Merry B.  A Woman Touch In F. Scott Fitzgerald’s Tender is The Night: Pulling The Women Out Of the Background. Thesis, Georgia State University, 2010.

This is a critical study of F. Scott Fitzgerald‟s Tender Is the Night focusing primarily on the lack of examination and criticism surrounding the women characters. By using a feminist reading of the novel in order to focus more attention on how the women characters affected Dick Diver‟s narrative and decline creates a fuller understanding of how and why Fitzgerald explored a much more intricate personal struggle concerning the investigation of identities and emotional independence as well as the themes of dominance and control between women and men. These women in Tender adapt and change to ensure their necessary survival long after their men have fallen prey to personal dilemmas. Mary North, Nicole Diver, and Rosemary Hoyt “preserved their individuality through men and not by opposition to them”, but this “preservation” represents the knowledge and ability to change and move beyond the identities created through those men.

Source: www.academicjournals.org/journal/IJEL/article-full-text-pdf/A980FDF59447

This paper discussed the approach of the notion of time that passes in the narrative and how it plays out through the structure of TFIOS based on the narrative theory of time by Paul Ricoeur in his book  Narrative  and  Time  (1984). Green deals with time as duration, both chronological and psychological, the time it takes a reader to actually read and time as an organizational device. Time is also a subject both Green and the characters speculate about,
particularly in their fear of oblivion and their need to be remembered after death. The author presents how time passes and how a disease like cancer affects young adolescents in real life.

Maija Brede.2004. Stylistic Variation as Manifest in the Informational Style of Intonation. University of Latvia, Latvia.Vol. 11.p(1-11)

The article looks into some features of the informational style of intonation in English in contrast to Latvian. Forthe analysis excerpts of a news broadcast from the Sky News, BBC World and LNT were chosen as presented by professional announcers. Auditive analysis provides data on voice timbre, logical division of speech, style-marking prosodic features and the prominence of semantic centres. The results of the present analysis of the style of intonation in English in comparison with the one undertaken in 1991 reveal that the basic features remain relatively stable. A slight difference in the voice timbre of contemporary announcers has been observed: occasionally it bears traits of emotional colouring. The division of the text basically corresponds to grammatical constructions; the pauses are of variable length. The loudness of speech is normal. The English announcers use a relatively wide voice range. The pace of speech is characterized as moderate with a slow-down on prominent parts of the text. Informational style characteristics of English include also a number of high
falls and wide falls that create the impression of emphasis on semantic centres.

Yesapogu.Venkateswarlu.2016. Re-Writing the Traditional Romantic Feelings in Modern Vision in the Novels of R.K.Narayan- A Critical Study. International Journal on Studies in English Language and Literature (IJSELL).Vol.4 No.4.April.Pp: 21-25

This paper is about analyzing Narayan’s novels from the Rasa point of view the traditional method of working out only the friendly emotions has been followed. But as the traditional theory permits an alignment of inimical Rasas through the intervention of a catalytic emotion, like, for example, the emotion of the Wonderful (Adbhuta). The analysis has taken recourse to the traditional theory of reconciling the opposites (Virudha) through an intermediary emotion. Without deviating very much from the traditional mode, and by sticking to it by and large Narayan’s novels have been analyzed from the Rasa point of view. This thesis attempts to supply that lacuna by analyzing four major novels of Narayan from the point of view of the Indian theory of emotion. Applying an age old theory to a modern work in an alien language entails certain modifications to be made to the theory. But as Narayan is a more traditional Indian writer than the others, the theory is by and large found suitable to an analysis of his novels. Without making a violent departure from the norms laid down by the theory, this article aims at looking at some Narayan novels from this point of view.

HEALTHY MONEY HABIT

So you’ve landed your first job(yeah girl!) and you’ve mentally spent your first month's pay on a new ’drobe. Other than looking as on point as Gigi, you know what else you could do with your
dollars? Penny Collicoat of Edge Financial Planning (edgefinanicalplanning.com.au) has these ideas.

PUT IT AWAY
If you save just $20 a week, by the end of the year you could have more than $1,000. For reals. Deposit this money in a separate online savings account so you can earn extra money through a higher interest rate, plus score bonuses if you don’t make a withdrawal. Not only are you now getting a pay check,
you’ll also be getting more cash for doing nothing but saving.

MAKE MORE
There will be times when you need a bit of extra cash(like when a BFF’s b’day comes up). In these moments, ask your ’rents if there are any jobs you can do around the house, and then track the chores on an app likeAllowance and Chore Bot – Free (from the App Store). Some other ideas are to organize a carwash in your street, or put out flyers in your area for babysitting or dog sitting gigs. You’ll be surprised how many spare hours you can fill making serious moolah!

CREATE A SQUAD BUDGET
As you earn more money, get in the habit of budgeting. You can do this by divvying up your total pay each week for different categories like going to dinner with mates, clothes, movies and concerts and, most importantly, savings! Oh, and you’ll have to make sure you don’t go over what you said you’d spend. As with all things we’re epic at, it takes a time to build up good habits and
know what to do. It’s a great idea to communicate your goals with your parents so they can help you stick to it. Plus, you can ask them for advice on different methods. They’ll def have a few ideas!

STICK TO PREPAID
Thinking of upgrading your
phone now that you can pay for it yourself? Most companies will sign you on a contract that runs for two years. If you can’t pay for some reason and you want to cancel your phone, you’re still responsible for the total amount of the two years, which can be majorly exy. Start out with a prepaid phone so that you know how much you’re spending and can’t run up a large debt. Cos paying for something you aren’t even using is so not cool.

Manhunt Underway After Shooting Attack at Istanbul Nightclub Kills 39

A manhunt is underway in Turkey after a gunman went on a rampage in a crowded Istanbul nightclub during New Year's Eve celebrations early Sunday morning, killed at least 39 people and injured at least 69 more, according to Turkish Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu.

The popular Reina club had attracted a diverse crowd of between 400 and 500 patrons from foreign countries as well as Turkey to ring in the new year before the attack by an apparently lone shooter at around 1:15 a.m, authorities said.

Turkish police said one gunman perpetrated the violence. Later, they released on social media photos of men whom they said were the Istanbul nightclub "attackers," images which they said were of the men going through a passport check-in as they entered Turkey.

The gunman armed with what authorities described as a long-barreled weapon killed a policeman and a civilian outside of the club before "[raining] bullets in a very cruel and merciless way on innocent people" inside the club, according to Visip Sahin, the governor of Istanbul.

Twenty-four of the 39 killed were foreign nationals, according to Turkey's state-run news agency. Authorities said the foreign victims hailed from Belgium, France, India, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia and Tunisia.

Among the nearly 70 people injured was a small business owner from Greenville, Delaware, Jake Raak, who was shot in the leg, family members told ABC station WPVI-TV in Philadelphia. Raak's brother, Michael, told WPVI-TV the bullet may have struck his cellphone, which prevent him from being injured more seriously.

The U.S. is not aware of any Americans dying in the attack, the U.S. State Department said early Sunday.

Of the 69 people who were injured, four were hospitalized in serious condition, according to Soylu, who described the attack as "inhuman."

"This was a massacre, a truly inhuman savagery," Soylu said.

At a press conference Sunday, Soylu said the assailant arrived wearing a jacket and pants, and is believed to have left wearing different clothing.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said in a statement Sunday, "I vehemently condemn the terror attack ... Turkey continues its combat against terror and is absolutely determined to do whatever is necessary in the region to ensure its citizens' safety and peace."

The U.S. issued a statement offering assistance to Turkish authorities.
"The president was briefed by his National Security Team on the attack in Istanbul," President Obama's principal deputy press secretary Eric Schultz said in a statement. "The president expressed condolences for the innocent lives lost, directed his team to offer appropriate assistance to the Turkish authorities, as necessary, and keep him updated as warranted."

Mark Toner, America's State Department's deputy spokesman said in a statement, "The United States strongly condemns the terrorist attack on a nightclub in Istanbul, Turkey ... We will remain in close touch with Turkish authorities throughout the investigation ... We stand in solidarity with our NATO Ally Turkey in combating the ongoing threat of terrorism."

Russian President Vladimir Putin, whose complex relationship with Turkey was further complicated in December after a Russian ambassador to Turkey was shot dead today by a lone gunman fired at him at a photo exhibition in Ankara, Turkey's capital in a widely-seen, on-camera attack, sent Erdogan a telegram of condolences, according to the Kremlin, writing, "It is hard to imagine a more cynical crime than killing innocent people during New Year celebrations. However, terrorists don't share moral values. Our common duty is to combat terrorists' aggression," Putin said.

Turkey has suffered numerous terrorist attacks in recent years, including bombings.
Among the incidents in the country were a suicide attack at a wedding this August and coordinated shootings and bombings of Istanbul's major international airport in June, attacks that killed scores of civilians.

News Casting Script

Officials are looking for a gunman who shot and killed 39 people, wounded 69 in this deadly attack at an Istanbul nightclub. The gunman there, they believe, entering the club after 1:00 p.m. and a flash as he shoots. He actually killed a police officer who was on guard at that club before he went in firing indiscriminately at New Year's revelers who were still partying at the club. It's very popular with foreigners.

More than 3 dozen killed, many more wounded in a nightclub attack early Sunday. The assailant opened fire during a New Year's celebration. The governor of Istanbul province saying the gunman entered the club and attacked innocent people, calling it a cruel, cold blooded act. Turkey is still recovering from a recent wave of terrorist attacks that left many citizens weary. This attack is, of course, a horrible development but not shocking to many Turks who chose to stay inside this New Year's Eve.  Officials say the attacker shot and killed a police officer guarding the front gate. A security camera captured the moment the gunman dressed in dark clothing dashed into the nightclub as bullets ricochet in the street. More than a dozen of the dead are foreign nationals. There have been no claims of responsibility. The fate of the attacker also unclear. Turkey faces numerous battles across different fronts. Not only has the Syrian conflict and refugee crisis spilled over, but they're battling ISIS and Kurdish militants. Both staged attacks in Turkey, which is still reeling from a bloody and failed military coup in July.

We heard from the deputy prime minister who talked about the fact that they will not let this suspect breathe in the New Year, giving the indication that they are in a serious manhunt to try to find what he said was just one attacker.

But we have heard other witnesses who said they thought they saw more than one attacker. But so far, officially, there's just one attacker. They're not sure if it's a him or a her, although that video makes it a little bit more clear, that surveillance video. We know 39 people dead, 69 people injured. There are families at the hospital waiting on their loved ones. Some of those people are critical. And so far, those people have been able to be identified, 16 of them, many of them are foreigners. They're not from here. And so, we're trying to get information as to what the nationalities are. But this club is a place that was kind of an upscale place to be especially for the tourists. And it's right on the Bosphorus. It's a beautiful club. A lot of people going there for the view and for the fun, and it ended so tragically.
